Keynote Speaker (Sponsored by Activate Learning) 
Lappan-Phillips Professor of Science Education and Professor of Chemistry at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on the development and assessment of high school and college level science curricula based on theories of learning and evidence about how people learn. She was a member of the leadership team for the development of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and served as a committee member for the National Academy of Science reports on Discipline Based Education Research (DBER), and Undergraduate Research Experiences (URE). She is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and was a member of the National Academies of Science Advisory Board on Science Education (BOSE). She has received a number of awards including the American Chemical Society Award for Achievement in Research on Teaching and Learning in Chemistry, the Norris award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching of Chemistry, the Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award from the Society for College Science Teaching, and was awarded an honorary D.Sc. from the University of South Florida. She earned her B.S. M.S. and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Manchester, England.
Dr. Cooper will be sharing her expertise in using Cross-Cutting Concepts.

Coastal Ecology and Conservation – Stony Brook University School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.

Additional workshops feature a wide range of topics from lab implementation, to developing 3-D
assessments, to items prevalent to current P-12 NYSSLS practices in all science content areas.

Registration will take place on EventBrite for all participants. Purchase orders will be accepted; once the PO is received, participants will be emailed a code to enter on EventBrite to complete registration. Approval to attend the conference on your school’s MyLearningPlan or equivalent management system does not finalize registration through Suffolk STANYS; you must use the EventBrite system to complete the conference registration and to select your workshop preferences. First Table is $125, and each additional table is $75. If you are a registered non-profit organization (with the appropriate §501(c) documentation), one table can be extended for a price of $50. Please send of a copy of your determination letter with payment.
